Doha 1
श्रीगुरु चरन सरोज रज, निज मनु मुकुरु सुधारि। बरनउँ रघुबर बिमल जसु, जो दायकु फल चारि॥
Shri Guru charan saroj raj, nij manu mukuru sudhari. Barnau Raghubar bimal jasu, jo dayaku phal chari.
I cleanse the mirror of my mind with the dust of my Guru's lotus feet. I sing the pure fame of Shri Ram, the best of Raghus, which grants the four fruits of life.
Doha 2
बुद्धिहीन तनु जानिके, सुमिरौं पवन-कुमार। बल बुद्धि बिद्या देहु मोहिं, हरहु कलेस बिकार॥
Buddhihin tanu janike, sumirau Pawan Kumar. Bal buddhi bidya dehu mohi, harahu kales bikar.
Knowing that my body has no wisdom, I remember you, O son of the Wind. Please grant me strength, wisdom and knowledge, and remove all my afflictions and impurities.
Chaupai 1
जय हनुमान ज्ञान गुन सागर। जय कपीस तिहुँ लोक उजागर॥
Jai Hanuman gyan gun sagar. Jai Kapis tihu lok ujagar.
Victory to Hanuman, ocean of wisdom and virtue! Victory to the Lord of monkeys who illuminates all three worlds.
Chaupai 2
राम दूत अतुलित बल धामा। अंजनि-पुत्र पवनसुत नामा॥
Ram doot atulit bal dhama. Anjani-putra Pawanasut nama.
You are the messenger of Ram, abode of incomparable strength. You are known as the son of Anjani and the son of Wind (Pawan).
Chaupai 3
महाबीर बिक्रम बजरंगी। कुमति निवार सुमति के संगी॥
Mahavir bikram Bajrangi. Kumati niwar sumati ke sangi.
You are the great hero, powerful as lightning (Vajra). You remove evil minds and accompany those with good thoughts.
Chaupai 4
कंचन बरन बिराज सुबेसा। कानन कुंडल कुंचित केसा॥
Kanchan baran biraj subesa. Kanan kundal kunchit kesa.
Your complexion is golden, your attire is beautiful. You wear earrings in your ears and your hair is curly.
Chaupai 5
हाथ बज्र औ ध्वजा बिराजै। काँधे मूँज जनेऊ साजै॥
Hath bajra au dhwaja birajai. Kandhe moonj janeu sajai.
You hold a thunderbolt (Vajra) and a flag in your hands. Over your shoulder, a sacred thread of munja grass adorns you.
Chaupai 6
संकर सुवन केसरीनंदन। तेज प्रताप महा जग बंदन॥
Shankar suvan Kesari Nandan. Tej pratap maha jag bandan.
You are the son of Shankar (Shiva) and the pride of Kesari (your earthly father). Your radiance and glory are worshipped throughout the world.
Chaupai 7
विद्यावान गुनी अति चातुर। राम काज करिबे को आतुर॥
Vidyawan guni ati chatur. Ram kaj karibe ko atur.
You are wise, virtuous, and extremely clever. You are always eager to do the work of Ram.
Chaupai 8
प्रभु चरित्र सुनिबे को रसिया। राम लखन सीता मन बसिया॥
Prabhu charitra sunibe ko rasiya. Ram Lakhan Sita man basiya.
You are delighted to listen to the deeds of the Lord. Ram, Lakshman and Sita reside in your heart.
Chaupai 9
सूक्ष्म रूप धरि सियहिं दिखावा। बिकट रूप धरि लंक जरावा॥
Sukshma roop dhari Siyahi dikhawa. Bikat roop dhari Lanka jarawa.
You appeared before Sita in a tiny form, then took a fearsome form to burn Lanka.
Chaupai 10
भीम रूप धरि असुर सँहारे। रामचंद्र के काज सँवारे॥
Bheem roop dhari asur sanhare. Ramchandra ke kaj sanware.
Assuming a gigantic form, you slaughtered the demons. You accomplished the mission of Ramchandra.
Chaupai 11
लाय सजीवन लखन जियाए। श्रीरघुबीर हरषि उर लाए॥
Laay sanjeevan Lakhan jiyae. Shri Raghubir harashi ur lae.
By bringing the Sanjeevani herb, you revived Lakshman. Shri Ram joyfully embraced you.
Chaupai 12
रघुपति कीन्ही बहुत बड़ाई। तुम मम प्रिय भरतहि सम भाई॥
Raghupati kinhi bahut badai. Tum mam priya Bharatahi sam bhai.
Raghupati (Ram) praised you greatly, saying: You are as dear to me as my brother Bharat.
Chaupai 13
सहस बदन तुम्हरो जस गावैं। अस कहि श्रीपति कंठ लगावैं॥
Sahas badan tumharo jas gawain. As kahi Shripati kanth lagawain.
Thousands of mouths sing your glory, saying this, the Lord of Lakshmi (Ram) embraced you.
Chaupai 14
सनकादिक ब्रह्मादि मुनीसा। नारद सारद सहित अहीसा॥
Sankaadik Brahmaadi munisa. Narad Sarad sahit Ahisa.
Sages like Sanak, gods like Brahma, sages like Narada, Saraswati and Sheshanag —
Chaupai 15
जम कुबेर दिगपाल जहाँ ते। कबि कोबिद कहि सके कहाँ ते॥
Yam Kuber digpal jahan te. Kabi kobid kahi sake kahan te.
—Yama, Kubera, the guardians of directions — no poet or scholar can fully describe your glory.
Chaupai 16
तुम उपकार सुग्रीवहिं कीन्हा। राम मिलाय राज पद दीन्हा॥
Tum upkar Sugrivehi linha. Ram milay raj pad linha.
You did a great favour to Sugriva. By introducing him to Ram, you got him the kingdom.
Chaupai 17
तुम्हरो मंत्र बिभीषन माना। लंकेस्वर भए सब जग जाना॥
Tumharo mantra Vibhishan mana. Lankeshwar bhae sab jag jana.
Vibhishan heeded your advice and, as the whole world knows, became the Lord of Lanka.
Chaupai 18
जुग सहस्र जोजन पर भानू। लील्यो ताहि मधुर फल जानू॥
Jug sahastra jojan par bhanu. Lilyo tahi madhur phal janu.
The Sun is thousands of yojans away, yet you swallowed it, thinking it was a sweet fruit.
Chaupai 19
प्रभु मुद्रिका मेलि मुख माहीं। जलधि लाँघि गये अचरज नाहीं॥
Prabhu mudrika meli mukh mahin. Jaladhi langhi gaye acharaj nahin.
You kept the Lord's ring in your mouth and leapt across the ocean — no wonder!
Chaupai 20
दुर्गम काज जगत के जेते। सुगम अनुग्रह तुम्हरे तेते॥
Durgam kaj jagat ke jete. Sugam anugraha tumhare tete.
All the difficult tasks of the world become easy with your grace.
Chaupai 21
राम दुआरे तुम रखवारे। होत न आज्ञा बिनु पैसारे॥
Ram duware tum rakhware. Hot na aagya binu paisare.
You are the guardian at Ram's gate. No one enters without your permission.
Chaupai 22
सब सुख लहै तुम्हारी सरना। तुम रक्षक काहू को डर ना॥
Sab sukh lahai tumhari sarna. Tum rakshak kahu ko dar na.
All happiness is found in your shelter. With you as the protector, there is nothing to fear.
Chaupai 23
आपन तेज सम्हारो आपै। तीनों लोक हाँक ते काँपै॥
Aapan tej samharo aape. Teeno lok hank te kanpai.
Only you can contain your own brilliance. The three worlds tremble at your roar.
Chaupai 24
भूत पिसाच निकट नहिं आवै। महाबीर जब नाम सुनावै॥
Bhoot pisach nikat nahin awai. Mahaveer jab naam sunawai.
Ghosts and evil spirits do not come near when the name of Mahaveer (Hanuman) is chanted.
Chaupai 25
नासै रोग हरै सब पीरा। जपत निरंतर हनुमत बीरा॥
Nasai rog harai sab pira. Japat nirantar Hanumat beera.
All diseases are cured and all pain is removed by the continuous chanting of Hanuman's name.
Chaupai 26
संकट से हनुमान छुड़ावै। मन क्रम बचन ध्यान जो लावै॥
Sankat se Hanuman chhudawai. Man kram bachan dhyan jo lawai.
Hanuman relieves distress for those who remember him in thought, deed and word.
Chaupai 27
सब पर राम तपस्वी राजा। तिन के काज सकल तुम साजा॥
Sab par Ram tapasvi raja. Tin ke kaj sakal tum saja.
Ram, the ascetic king, rules over all. You accomplish all his tasks.
Chaupai 28
और मनोरथ जो कोई लावै। सोई अमित जीवन फल पावै॥
Aur manorath jo koi lawai. Soi amit jeevan phal pawai.
Whoever brings any wish to you, that person receives limitless fruits of life.
Chaupai 29
चारों जुग परताप तुम्हारा। है परसिद्ध जगत उजियारा॥
Charon jug partap tumhara. Hai parsiddha jagat ujiyara.
Your glory shines across all four yugas and is renowned throughout the world.
Chaupai 30
साधु-संत के तुम रखवारे। असुर निकंदन राम दुलारे॥
Sadhu Sant ke tum rakhware. Asur nikandan Ram dulare.
You are the protector of saints and sages, the destroyer of demons, and Ram's beloved.
Chaupai 31
अष्ट सिद्धि नौ निधि के दाता। अस बर दीन जानकी माता॥
Ashta siddhi nau nidhi ke data. As bar deen Janaki mata.
Mother Janaki (Sita) blessed you with the ability to bestow the eight siddhis and nine nidhis.
Chaupai 32
राम रसायन तुम्हरे पासा। सदा रहो रघुपति के दासा॥
Ram rasayan tumhare pasa. Sada raho Raghupati ke dasa.
You hold Ram as your elixir. You are ever the servant of Raghupati (Ram).
Chaupai 33
तुम्हरे भजन राम को पावै। जनम-जनम के दुख बिसरावै॥
Tumhare bhajan Ram ko pawai. Janam-janam ke dukh bisrawai.
By singing your devotional songs, one attains Ram and forgets the sorrows of many lifetimes.
Chaupai 34
अन्तकाल रघुबर पुर जाई। जहाँ जन्म हरि-भक्त कहाई॥
Antkaal Raghubar pur jai. Jahan janma Hari bhakt kahai.
At the time of death, one goes to Ram's abode and wherever reborn, is known as a devotee of Hari.
Chaupai 35
और देवता चित्त न धरई। हनुमत सेई सर्व सुख करई॥
Aur devata chit na dharai. Hanumat sei sarb sukh karai.
One need not think of any other deity. Worshipping Hanuman alone gives all happiness.
Chaupai 36
संकट कटै मिटै सब पीरा। जो सुमिरै हनुमत बलबीरा॥
Sankat katai mitai sab pira. Jo sumirai Hanumat balvira.
All troubles are cut and all pain erased for those who remember the mighty hero Hanuman.
Chaupai 37
जै जै जै हनुमान गोसाईं। कृपा करहु गुरुदेव की नाईं॥
Jai jai jai Hanuman gosain. Kripa karahu Gurudev ki nain.
Victory, victory, victory to Hanuman, Lord! Please bestow your grace, like a Guru upon a disciple.
Chaupai 38
जो सत बार पाठ कर कोई। छूटहि बंदि महा सुख होई॥
Jo sat bar path kar koi. Chhutihi bandi maha sukh hoi.
Whoever recites this Chalisa a hundred times is freed from bondage and attains great joy.
Chaupai 39
जो यह पढ़ै हनुमान चालीसा। होय सिद्धि साखी गौरीसा॥
Jo yah padhai Hanuman Chalisa. Hoy siddhi sakhi Gaurisa.
Whoever reads this Hanuman Chalisa will attain siddhi (accomplishment) — Lord Shiva is witness.
Chaupai 40
तुलसीदास सदा हरि चेरा। कीजै नाथ हृदय मह डेरा॥
Tulsidas sada Hari chera. Keejhai Nath hriday mah dera.
Tulsidas is always a servant of Hari. O Lord! Please make your abode in my heart.
Final Doha
पवन तनय संकट हरन, मंगल मूरति रूप। राम लखन सीता सहित, हृदय बसहु सुर भूप॥
Pawan tanay sankat haran, mangal moorti roop. Ram Lakhan Sita sahit, hriday basahu sur bhoop.
O Son of the Wind, remover of sorrows, embodiment of auspiciousness — please dwell in my heart along with Ram, Lakshman and Sita.
